Lt. Gov. Cox Wins Republican Convention, Ready for Victory in June Primary
SALT LAKE CITY (April 25, 2020) – After winning the Republican state convention with 55 percent of the vote in the sixth round of voting, Lt. Governor Spencer Cox released the following statement:
“Running for office is never easy, particularly in times like these, and I want to thank each candidate for their willingness to enter the race. Delegates have never had a more qualified and capable set of candidates to consider. I am grateful to be their choice in this convention.
“During these difficult times, Senator Deidre Henderson deserves recognition for helping lead our campaign. This result is not possible without her incredible effort and conservative leadership. I am more convinced by the day that she will be the best Lt. Governor our state has ever had.
“As the field narrows, it is clear that our next governor must be a consistent conservative capable of leading Utah into this new decade. Governor Herbert’s leadership brought Utah out of the Great Recession. Senator Henderson and I have the experience to lead Utah back to having the best economy in the nation following COVID-19. We are here – we have always been here – and we are not going anywhere.
“I appreciate that our message resonated with the delegates and look forward to sharing it with Republican primary voters as well.”
Senator Henderson added the following:
“I want to thank the delegates for making such a strong statement. Spencer and I appreciate their vote of support. Our grassroots organization of hundreds of volunteers across the Wasatch Front and rural Utah will continue to work harder than anyone else in the weeks ahead.”
